Spirit Of Christmas: Philadelphia Holiday Classic DVD

You don't have to be from the USA to enjoy this charming work

I have no connection to Philadelphia or indeed the USA (am in the UK). I heard about The Spirit Of Christmas at Steve Stanchfield's Thunderbean Thursday postings at Jerry Beck's Cartoon Research site. I love old animation though generally not so much marionette animation. This piece though is done splendidly; full of charm and atmosphere and nice use of colour. Very seasonal and really well done. The extra features are also very good including the extra Santa Claus marionette short from the late 1950s.

CAR 54 (S1): Great pic/sound quality, episodes in incorrect order & the shorter syndicated versions are used here.

Great picture/sound. Episodes not in original 1961 transmission order (go to IMDb site to find correct order) and episodes about 4 or 5 minutes shorter than on 1st transmission - ie. it is the syndicated versions which are used here. I'm quite happy though as this is the only available official set and picture & sound is excellent, as mentioned.
