Lady Chatterley and Mellors get a satirical twist
The novel takes Lady Chatterley's Lover by D.H. Lawrence and tells the story of their son - John Thomas, who has become a Conservative Cabinet Minister and then discovers the truth about his past. The book is by the critic and satirist Craig Brown, who is perhaps best known for his parliamentary sketch writing and humorous articles in newspapers like The Times, Daily Mail and Private Eye. It was his first novel, but its format is unusual in that its narrative is constructed around a series of letters, news cuttings and diary extracts. Its inventive, funny and at times annoying. If you are looking for a serious continuation of Lady Chatterley and Mellors, then this won't be for you. If you like satire and parody, then it could be.
Smiley's People (DVD, 2004)

Spy thriller with atmosphere and outstanding performances.
I watched this in the early 1980s when it was first broadcast and thought it atmospheric, brooding and compelling. I've just watched it again over thirty years later and have enjoyed it just as much if not more. The acting is of the highest level with some outstanding performances. Sir Alec Guinness plays Smiley once again with understatement and the lightest of touch. He is brilliant. The six parts have a pace and feel lacking in so much of modern television, and if you enjoyed the Alec Guinness version of Tinker Tailor, you will almost certainly enjoy this.
BADFINGER TIMELESS...THE MUSICAL LEGACY CD (Greatest Hits / Very Best Of)

A great band and a compilation album that captures the early 1970s
The very best of Badfinger, a band which should have gone on to achieve so much more but was let down by it's management and record label. 1970s nostalgia - yes, but also some really great tracks that have stood the test of almost half a century.
