Larousse Gastronomique
I got this book a great copy and it is a great reference book but it's not a compelling book like a lot of large reference books it is crowded by information at the expense of more in depth informative content.
More plates charts and step by step content would be a good idea and more on basic cooking and basic techniques would be helpful to the less experienced reader it's layout is a bit dated and it's content needs to be brought up to date a bit with more international recipes and more basic recipes and in fact more recipes altogether.
Having said all this yes it's worth having in your kitchen for reference but it could be so much more cut the content and add more information and recipes in more detail.
