Fantatic Figure.
I have been painting miniature for over 30 years now and have done commission work so I consider my self a part time professional. The Hill Giant figure from Galeforce nine collector series is perhaps one of the nicest and more detailed sculpts I have worked on.
Overall the figure is easy to put together provided you have some experience with resin miniatures. Normally I pin figures of this size to ensure that the figure stays together, however this was not needed for this figure.
There was scant few mold lines or flashing to clean up and there was no powder substance or mold release agent as normally accompany resin figure. Most resin figures it is necessary to "wash" or wipe down the figure prior to painting. Mold release powder is often still on the figure to some degree and this can keep paint from sticking to the figure. The Hill Giant figure was clean and ready to be worked on almost straight from the box.
As I stated earlier there was very minimal or scant amounts of mold lines and no flashing. There was a single small hole which I guess that there was a tiny air bubble during the process of making the figure. the air bubble eventually pops and it leaves a small hole in the figure. This hole was in the left arm and it was easily filled. All of the assembly lines where you put the figure together were very tight and required just a little amount of sanding and a touch of filler to mask the assembly lines to create a single smooth figure.
I am not well versed with what type of resin was used but the figure took paint very well to the point that I barely needed a base coat. Looking back I probably could have gone without a base coat, this is how well the figure took paint.
The overall detail in the sculpt is superb and the only part of the figure I would have wanted more clear within the sculpt would be the goat at the giants side. Personally I would like to have seen more "hair" lines to show the texture of the goat's skin better.
Without a doubt my favorite thing about this figure is the facial expression, body language and the overall motion it has. The pose is perfect as the Hill giant is in the midst of throwing a huge boulder. Typically Giant figures are sort of blocking and stoic looking without much feel of motion or action. This Giant from Gale force Nine collector series is just a fantastic "snap shot" of terror about to be unleashed. The last thing I would like to say is that I like the figure so much I am seriously considering getting another one of the same type just to paint it again and to have.
Thanks to this figure I am also considering purchasing other figures within this line.
