Great read, good value, a truly different and personal perspective.
After reading this, no one should be able to say that Clarence Thomas isn't as searingly honest with himself as with others - probably more so about himself. Certainly makes me want to meet his grandparents, and go visit the neighborhood in which he grew up. Can't say I ever cherished a desire to go to an Ivy League college, but this confirms my lack of desire to ever do so. Reads a bit like Whittaker Chambers' book, "Witness", and makes it understandable why he wouldn't want to take on a Supreme Court nomination.

Read It, Love It, Learn It
Loved the book - not only a summary of the 'cool' words in an old dictionary, but also the dedication that it takes to spend an entire year of one's life in reading 20 volumes of anything. The stories about Shea's transformation from closet dictionary devourer to Open Wacko at the library, dribbling Post-it Notes and talking himself out the door, were entertaining and educational. It made me want to re-discover the joy of words - and not just be content with the limited vocabulary that I possess!
