Staub quality is what you’re buying
Staub is a brand that makes some really great stuff. Usually compared to Le Creuset, the quality of both is great. It the differences that are noteworthy and what makes Staub special. The heavier lid keeps in twice the moisture, the self basting raised texture on the underside of lid, the porous black enamel inside allows a seasoning patina to develop over time, and even the optional whimsical knobs are lovely. I do work in a cookware store and have also been cooking with a staub 7 qt Dutch oven (favorite) in particular for 6 years and it is outstanding :). The savings here exceeds what my store discount would be by quite a bit. With the second quality items, mine had excellent glazing necessary for optimal use and wear, but some of the painting left some texture & uneven color on the inside of the handles. Not visible unless you do a very thorough product inspection, and not noticeable just looking at it, and should not impact use. When a company is one with a reputation as excellent as Staub (Henckels), they would not sell a poor quality item even as a second. As a side note, I received my pot the day after ordering it, actually less than 24 hours later! If you’re buying a gift, go to a store and pay the extra for perfection. Otherwise, this is an excellent option to buy great Staub quality more affordably.
