Lesser Beasts: A Snout-to-Tail History of the Humble Pig by Essig, Mark

    Appreciate your bacon!!
This book is a very good story of the pig and how dependent we humans have been upon the pig. It showed how pigs have been perceived throughout history. It tells why pigs and dogs were so demonized by the Mid-Eastern religions. It defined Roman parties as pig roast. It showed how pigs fed the pioneers and armies on the move. The smell of hogs is best when tempered by hickory smoke. Have you ever porked-out?

A story of how knowledge was collected
I have purchase about 10 of these books and have passed them out. My friends have commented that this book was one of the most influential books that they had read. The chapters are independent and can be read in any order. There are chapters on medicine, microscopic things, the use of telescopes, the invention and use of clocks, and the development of interest in history - early historic and prehistoric. It tells of how many misconceptions were passed down for ages because regard for early leaders. It tells of how the printing press was developed and how the inventor was rewarded for his work. Very easy to read and interesting

Very interesting, good reading, very informative
This book documents the relationships between the United States and the Middle East. It covers many topics from "the shores of Tripoli" to the song "Little Egypt". It tells of how the Mid-East initiated our writing of the Constitution. It tells of how early US churchmen tried to Save the people of the area to hasten the return of Christ. During the our Civil War, Europe was cut of from our cotton. Egypt stepped up and supplied the market. It was a real cotton bubble which popped about 6 years after the war. In the meantime, Egypt ran up a huge debt by building huge inter-structures . Egypt could not pay its debt to England. England tried to install governments which would favor Brittan. This did not work. England took over Egypt. Shortly after our Civil War, generals from both sides went to Egypt to train their army. One of our warships was captured near Tripoli and used as a cargo vessel to take tribute to the ruler of the Ottoman Empire. On the trip the ship carried sheep, camels, and goats. I have purchased several of these books and have passed to friends. Better tales cannot be told.
