Great music, great fun, from an under-appreciated movie.
This movie has been highly underrated by the critics and audiences. As for the critical reviews, much attention was given to the acting abilities of Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta. I do not know if the film was misunderstood to be a drama, where acting takes center stage, but it is NOT. It is a musical. Music is center stage. I felt that the acting of both Hough and Boneta was very well done, and there were many scenes that were intentionally "tongue in cheek", and never meant to be taken seriously.
I think the trailers didn't make it clear that this movie is a musical in the strictest sense of the word and that may have led to some disappointment by viewers.
Also, the "hoopla" over Tom Cruise's role may have been overstated, as his role was not the main character of the film.
With all of that said, I loved the film. The music was classic 80's and the wardrobe, hair, make-up and mindset were all perfectly indicative of that time period.
I thought that all of the actors did a fine job in their characters, and the vocals were wonderful, especially in the case of Boneta and Hough.
I left the theatre feeling entertained and happy. What more can you ask of a movie? I enjoyed it enough to buy it to watch again and to share with friends, since theatre runs were short-lived.
Great, fun movie, with authentic characterization of the 80's culture, a great soundtrack, that was very well acted. Give it a try, it's worth the cost of the DVD.

Small packets fold out in to nice sized, well soaked to hand wipes
When I got the hand sanitizer packets, I said, "Oh no!" They look very small. perhaps 1-1/2 inches by 1- 1/4 inches. But, when I opened one of them, the paper inside unfolds into a very nice sized towlette. These are not soft handwipes. They feel like a sort of thick paper, but they don't bother my very sensitive skin, and they are well saturated with sanitizer so I'm thrilled at the price and how they perform. They are great for cleaning door handles, grocery cart handles when there are no sanitizers available, the little "pens" at checkout counters, etc. during flu season, and they also perform perfectly to clean the fingers for diabetic testing. I also used them on anything that can be cleaned with alcohol, such as my laptop keyboard, which gets interestingly dirty. Great buy, small to carry, but large enough when unfolded to do the job!
