The Real Vasili Zeitsev

Despite the Communist overtones in some places, this book is the very compelling autobiography of this very brave Russian sniper in their Great Patriotic (War WW2). It is a very graphic description of of the Seige of Stalingrad from the type of person who won it. Not generals or politicians, but the humble frontline soldier, in this case a very deadly sniper. I thoroughly recommend this book as it will clear up some of the very alarming discrepancies in the film “Enemy At The Gates” about this man who though small in stature, was the veritable Russian Great Bear.

Eastern Front in WW1

An absolute positive surprise to watch. It was recommended on a WW1 site I am a member of and I bought the DVD as a consequence. Despite the minor inconvenience of reading sub titles, the plot, the war scenes, the characters and the acting were of a really good quality and I found it a great deal more entertaining than many, even very recently films on WW1. I highly recommend it to discerning historians or those just wanting a believable action movie not made by Hollywood.
