Disappointed
I was at a friend's house, and they had the Pirates of Penzance playing. It was a fantastic production. Widescreen, gorgeous audio and video quality. The cast was stellar, with Kevin Kline, Linda Ronstadt, and the rest bringing this wonderful Gilbert & Sullivan play to life. I found this DVD on Ebay; same play, same cast. I purchased it, looking forward to seeing it again. I started watching it. At that point I realized that there must be two versions. The amazing version I had seen at my friend's house, and this one. Although it appears to be the same play, the video quality is poor, and looks like a worn out VHS copy. It is in full frame (i.e. 4:3 aspect ratio; not mentioned in description) Audio is poor. On the plus side, although listed as used, the DVD itself had no scratches, and the case was undamaged. The description did mention that it was a videotaped performance. It didn't mention that this version looks like it was videotaped with a potato. I will be looking for the good version. If you are also looking for the good version, be advised that this one isn't it.
