The Happy Hanna!
My dad was the Combat Information Officer on the Hancock about 1953-54. I have memories of watching the ship disappear over the horizon as it would put to sea, and also of the ocean smell while standing on the pier watching it arrive in port. This kit is an impressive replication of the pre-angled deck, non-hurricane bow days. The hangar deck is impressively detailed so can be viewed with a flashlight through the side openings. The hull can be assembled as a waterline model or as a full-hulled model, and there is a plastic ocean water base to be painted if the waterline version is used. The 523 pieces are intricate, allowing ease of painting before installation. Even the dozens of aircraft, each about 5/8 of an inch long, need to have their three landing gear and propellers individually glued on. I look forward to having the finished model in a display case as a tribute to part of my dad's Naval Aviation career.

Nostalgia
I had a chance to pilot this workhorse back in the mid-1970's, along with its little brother, the Beaver. The model's details are accurate, and I look forward to having it sitting among my collection of models of aircraft I was fortunate enough to have flown. I like that the parts are individual enough for detailed painting. For example, the propeller, cowling, engine cylinders, and engine details in front of the cylinders are all easily-assembled, separate pieces. The seats, control yoke, column, forward instrument panel, and lower instrument console are all separate pieces, making painting intricate details easier. I like how the windows for each side are cast in a clear, single strip with the window sections sticking out from the attaching strip to be inserted from inside the fuselage halves. That will make it easier to glue all in place without accidentally getting a glue smudge on each small window as often happens when trying to glue them in individually as 1/8 inch by 3/16ths inch individual window panels. Nice-kit!
