Jacobs Quality; Made in China
Jacobs quality speaks for itself. Even though this chuck is made in China, the quality is as good as a Made-in-USA Jacobs chuck of previous years. The scroll runs smoothly, the chuck jaws are ground as a set, the key does not slip, there is very little backlash at the fully open and fully closed positions when reversed, and the anodize of the sleeve is hard.
One criticism is that the set does not include the left-hand threaded retaining screw. So if you're replacing your chuck on a reversible tool, ensure the retaining screw is in good shape or purchase a replacement of equal quality. Torx broached through hole in the chuck body allows easy removal without a hammer.
Actual max chucking diameter .518" (13.16mm) as checked with gauge pin. Runout with .500" gauge pin .0025" (63.5um).
