history in the kitchen
A wonderful insight into a part of history that I knew nothing about. This cookbook is one of the better history books for the time that I have read. It tells so much about what was available cuisine, manners and accepted views of delicate behavior and of all things toilet and health....which since squirrel seemed to be a big favorite I cannot question that those subject matters were very very important. Very funny, very enlightening, and a very accurate insight to the daily and accepted practices of the time for the white house,....thereby reflecting the times close after the civil war. A great read! A great book to add to your American History book collection....and oh yes of course.....there were a few recipes (without squirrel) that are worth trying.
