Adequate for the price
The laser receiver and remote that come with this kit work fine outside, which is why I bought this system. The tripod is made of aluminum and is a bit flimsy - I use a wooden tripod for survey work and this is a better and more stable setup. Time will tell if it holds up as the case of the laser unit seems a little flimsy as well for a professional tool - this is why I rated it 4 stars.
The range is far more than I required, and I didn't test it to 1000 feet. For a few dollars more in this kit you get the more sensitive receiver.
