Humpreys brings a moment in time alive

I haven't read this yet, but am reading all her works this year and am greatly enjoying the reads. Humphrey's writes stories of the past, our stories, using enough detail to make the time she is writing about come to life, but not so much that it is a dry read. Characters lead, even in her vignettes.

An intense look at what evils leave behind

Polanski has several landmark films. The Pianist and Chinatown, and of course Rosemary's Baby immediately come to mind. But he's also a master of smaller, enclosed location films, and Death and the Maiden is one of my absolute favourites. A man has a flat tire. He gets a ride home. His wife is in another room. She hears this stranger speak and terror shoots through her. She knows the voice!

Scary and fun.

I am rating the movie itself and not the item. I've seen this maybe once since I was a kid. There are images that have stuck with me all my life. I know the time I rented it, maybe 15 years ago, I loved it! Was still waiting for moments in the film to come up. I am watching it on October 22nd as part of my 31 days of scary movies. The cast is fantastic, from Donald Pleasence and Peter Cushing to John Vernon and Samantha Eggar. And lots and lots of cats. If there was ever a reason to be a dog person, this movie is my reason!
