Wonderful Vintage JBL 4312B Speakers
Well these JBL's are beautiful and I've been looking for a pair in pristine condition for quite while. I was particularly interested in the 4312's since they were typically used in recording studio as reference monitor's during the late 60's and 70's. I am re-creating a stereo system from that era with that "fat" analog sound in mind and I am purchasing equipment only from that time period.
So far they are very good although a little boomy, as I have read about before, but I think with a little tweaking they could be adjusted for an over all better sound. I have always been a long time JBL fan and I presently own the L890 Towers, the L820's Satellite's and the LC1 Center Channel for my 5:1 surround sound system at home. As far as comparing them to another speaker I can not. Each speaker has it's own sound and it always comes down to personal preference. The biggest hurdle I had to overcome is finding a pair that was in really good condition. With these being 30 years old a lot of what is selling on ebay is damage or neglected speakers. Especially with the cones. Dry-rot and pushed in cones are a big problem.
