Good speakers, good value
Many modern speakers are too small, and lack bass or even midrange. Modern speakers are also ridiculously expensive for the lack of quality you are getting. Long before the iPod, people listened mostly on speakers, and those speakers were -- as the physics demands -- large enough to have some warm midrange and bass. The Boston Acoustics A40 Series II is a great example of good-sounding speakers, balanced across the spectrum. Unlike a modern speaker, you will need to get an amp to drive it and possibly a WiFi audio receiver, but the result is just FANTASTIC -- worth investing your money in this kind of audio component rather than Bluetooth speakers. They aren't tiny, but do you want good sound or not? You won't get midrange or bass in the tiny hummingbird-sized objects sold as "speakers" nowadays.
