Dated, but good mini-series
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich This was an attempt to generate another blockbuster mini-series by the same author that started the whole mini-series craze with Sho-Gun. On the whole, it still works. While not as intriguing as Sho-Gun, it opens up the culture and atmosphere of Hong Kong. As with all film or TV treatments, it is a pale shadow of the book, but it is visually interesting and tells a good story. At times it seems a bit stilted and doesn't flow as smoothly as I would have liked, but overall it is an enjoyable view.

Unforgettable
I first saw this as a PBS special during their pledge drive. After it was over, I immediately checked the schedule for when it would air again and I recorded it. I edited out the pledge breaks and thoroughly enjoyed replaying it. But it bugged me that it wasn't the full concert so I started looking for a good deal on the DVD/Blu-ray. There wasn't any! Because I had a recorded copy I just kept looking until I found a Blu-ray for a good price. I'm sorry now I waited. The backstory of this concert is as amazing as I thought the concert was, but knowing the backstory I am dumbfounded that the concert is even more amazing!
Joe Bonamassa is an exceptional guitarist, known mostly for his electric guitar work. His few acoustic sets in his concerts were always well received and generated a demand for more. Acoustic work takes skill at a very different and higher level. This concert proves his ability to step up to the demand and deliver an exquisite performance. My ONLY complaint is that between some of the songs, during the applause and setup for the next song, each performer is given the chance for a short comment about the process they went through and their thoughts. I enjoyed their thoughts, but it is a bit distracting to have it inserted as it was. It isn't bad, but it does break up the flow a bit. I can understand why it was done as most people do not play the bonus material (where the interesting stuff is!) so short inserts was a way to give each musician a voice. From this you can guess what's coming. Watch the bonus material!!
I'm of two minds about getting the CD for this concert. I really enjoy the music, but it is tied so much to the visual of the performance I decided to buy the Blu-ray first. I'll probably be looking for a deal on a CD. It's just too good not to.
