where the hey is my book?
Two weeks since I won this book and it has not yet arrived. What's the problem? I promise to re-write this review once it shows! And isn't this 100 characters, or need I keep spewing nonsense until I reach that total?

A fine TV film
This film was made for TV and reminds me of the classic Playhouse 90 drams of my childhood. It's terrific -- on a par with the Kevin Costner film of several years ago which also dealt with the Cuban missile crisis. Devane is amazing as JFK -- one has to look at film of the real man to banish Devane's face from one's head when thinking about Kennedy after seeing his utterly convincing performance. Everyone's good -- although I wish they'd chosen someone other than Ralph Bellamy to play Adlai Stevenson. Bellamy is a great actor but he doesn't look a bit like Adlai and didn't capture the humor with which Stevenson eviscerated the Russians at the U.N. Anyway, the crisis was scary -- I was 13 at the time -- and this dramatization makes one remember it in one's bones.

Superior performances
I've enjoyed this movie for years -- superb performances by Walken and Penn and the others, and it's especially nice to see Millie Perkins (of THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK) again. James Foley's direction is striking, yet not intrusive. The characters are powerful creations -- Walken's is one of the nastiest creeps you'll ever see on screen. A minor classic, well worth owning.
