Disappointed
I was disappointed because although the product actually has 15 pins (unlike many supposed 15 pin VGA splitters), the computer video card cannot determine the monitor and its characteristics. I suspect that the 2 wide sections of cabling are rectifiers which prevent signals returning to the computer from the monitors. I am not an expert on this question. This is just my hypothesis. It did not take the device apart.
If you disconnect the splitter cable and hook one monitor directly to the computer, you can get full high resolution VGA video; then you must disconnect and reattach the splitter. With this workaround you can use it--but it is a pain whenever you need to reboot. On reboot, resolution goes back to 800x 640 because again the computer or video card cannot discover the characteristics of either monitor.
In the end, I ditched this and bought an actual VGA splitter/amplifier which cost 4 or 5 times as much but works very well.
