A good alternative
Because I had to order an 86mm hood I realised it might be a tad tenuous as the rubber has to sit in a groove around the metal mount..So as a precaution I superglued the rubber hood in place. I should imagine that much smaller sizes would not require this.
Whatever way it's far better than the massive Plastic hood that came with the lens.

No second mortgage required for this great lens.
This version appears to be the latest 2019 f3.0 model and would have cost around twice as much from uk retailers so that alone is very pleasing.
Whilst I've not had the opportunity to give the lens a full workout in the field as yet, the images I've taken by way of experimentation are by no means inferior by any stretch of the imagination.
Focusing with any ultra wide angle is always going to be difficult but using the magnification in live view mode certainly helps.
Compared with many after market lens, this lens seems very well made, has some reassuring weight and the 'f' and focus controls are extremely smooth in they're use and operation.
Personally the fact that the lens is totally manual I've not found to be any issue and in fact it's taken me back to proper .Hands On' photography.
