iconic loco piccies
Another one in this great range of books, showing these great locomotives in all conditions, new, in service,workworn,
repaired & repainted, and then neglected with the end of steam. A great book for modellers and historians which shows how steam engines really looked, not like the glossy pretty specimens running on preserved lines. It also shows that despite the "wise words" of many authors styles of painting and insignia differed from official edicts and everyday working engines often didn't get painted for many years.

Unfair to Gwr enthusiast, I'm going to have to afford the other six volumes
This series of books is brilliant. There are other books which describe the engineering/technical side but the wealth of photographic detail in these shows not only the different fixtures/fittings but also the difference in livery, insignia and cleanliness. For all those who like the shiny, highly polished items on the Heritage Railways it shows what proper working railways were like.
