Canadian Pacific at Its Finest
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich These MBI railroad books are quite good, and I recommend them without reservation. They also seem to be getting tougher to find in any condition. In this particular book, what is on display is perhaps the best in color collection of Canadian Pacific pictures out there. Although you see other regions of this rail system, the Canadian Rocky scenes dominate, and are they spectacular! You get a nice history throughout of the CP, plus several system maps. I own Tom Murray’s MBI book on the Southern Railway, which is a winner, and once again got a winner with the CP. These books are nicely formatted and are an excellent value to any railfan’s library.

A great book on the SP, despite....
Another fine effort by MBI, this time on the Southern Pacific. I really like this book, despite the fact that one of SP’s crowning achievements is glossed over, and that is the Oil Cans. There should have been more on this train, as SP managed to build a railroad over Tehachapi back in the day, then as if to say can you top this one, coordinated an effort with Shell Oil to move Kern County crude oil daily to Los Angeles. Nothing short of amazing, especially over that terrain. Please read about this train in Trains Magazine July 1994, and also Steve Schmollinger’s book “Tehachapi”. Other than this one deficiency, this book is worth your time. A great selection of photos over the years, a decent system map, and like other books in this series, post card pictures of how things looked in the earlier days. I think these post cards really add to the fine mix that is one of the great strengths of these books. I believe if you are looking for one volume on the SP, you can’t go wrong here.
