Excellent start-up system for a DCC installation!
I purchased this system as a start-up to convert my DC layout to DCC, and it turned out to be a perfect solution. The instructions for quick-start were exactly what is needed to get up and running, at least for an initial foray into DCC. I did purchase the NCE EB1 short-circuit protection board separately based on reading I had done on running DCC on a layout. The EB1 was also straightforward to install in between the track power outputs of the NCE524001 system box and the track connections. The instruction manual is set up to lead you through logical "next steps" as you learn to operate with DCC. I did have an engine with a decoder installed on hand before I did the installation, which allowed me to be up and running within 30 minutes. The system is easily expandable in many dimensions: adding extra plug-ins for cabs, adding radio control for wireless cabs, adding boosters for power districts, adding stationary decoders for controlling turnouts and accessories, etc. All the details are there for start-up, and for eventually running a full layout with DCC. I look forward to expanding my conversion to more tracks soon!

Perfect decoder for small space requirements!
A great little [literally] decoder with the keep-alive attached, with a long enough pair of wires to tuck the keep-alive away. Installed in a model of the ALCO RS-2, which came DCC-ready, but very limited space. This filled the bill perfectly, although space for the keep-alive was very limited, but ultimately doable, thanks to the length of wires connecting it to the decoder itself. Runs like a champ!!
