Awesome GPS for my sail boat.
Use this GPSMAP640 on my Cal 34 and so far it's awesome. I've read some reviews that say the screen is not bright enough, but I've had no problems with that at all. Of course in bright sunlight you have to get a little closer to it, or shade the sun a bit with your hand, but the screen is bright enough for me and I've had no issues whatsoever with this GPS.
Wired it up to my Lowrance Link 8 VHF with AIS and now commercial ships show up as green triangles. I can then just touch them and get position, course, speed and all the info I need. This combo is perfect for safely crossing the busy shipping lanes off the California coast.
"Route to waypoint" function is also easy to use as is he entire operating system. I barely skimmed over the manual, and I was using the GPSMAP640 the same day it arrived. Set waypoints at all my favorite anchorages on the Islands as well around some local obstacles, then I just route to them with a few clicks on the screen.
