Very good (but not perfect) native DOS compatibility on more modern PCs
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich This card has very good native DOS compatibility on more modern motherboards using the Yamaha v3.16 DOS drivers (more specifically the DSDMA TSR) and an authentic OPL3 synthesizer integrated into the YMF744 chip. This is the same FM synthesizer used on many Sound Blaster Pro and Sound Blaster 16 cards from the 90s. The DOS drivers work well on motherboards with a native PCI slot (up to Intel 7 series chipsets for 3rd generation i3/i5/i7 processors). Later boards provide PCI slots from a bridge chip off of the PCI express bus and many/most/all? of these do not support devices using the ISA I/O addresses used by Sound Blaster compatible cards in DOS, so this card will likely not work in DOS in computers from the last few years. Also, compatibility is not good with some games using more incompatible memory management in DOS. Any game that would not run in a DOS box under Windows is more likely not to work with the DSDMA TSR (Wing Commander Privateer is one of my favorites that is not compatible with DSDMA). If you only load the “setupds /s” without the DSDMA TSR, you can likely get FM synthesized music in these games but no digital audio. There is also no wavetable synthesis in DOS (only FM) but this card apparently has good wavetable support under Windows (which I have not tested). Overall for me it’s a fun card to mess around with running old games natively on more modern hardware.
