Great functionality, low price, and overall a great little phone!
I bought this phone for the internet capabilities, and the fact that I was sick of carrying around and using my phone and my pocket pc to do the work one smartphone could handle. I picked it up used off of ebay for 40 bucks, and It doesn't dissapoint! The internet explorer browser that comes with the phone is a little outdated, so I had to download and install the Opera Mini browser. The phone loads pretty much any web page from facebook to ebay. I haven't been able to get youtube to run on the phone, but I haven't looked to hard on how to do it, so that's not really a complaint of mine.
There are plenty of free programs out there to enhance your user experience. I downloaded and installed an mmorpg without problem, as well as a mobile port of Doom. The HTC Dash runs Windows Mobile 5, which is easy and reliable to use. Windows Mobile 5 also comes with Office Mobile, which includes "mobile" versions of Microsoft word, excel, and power point. I use excel the most, to build check registers and to price out future purchases I want to make and see how much money I saved.
The smartphone comes with a really amazing little camera, which allows you to adjust the brightness and the other point and shoot settings on the fly. Sometimes the controls of the keyboard are a little confusing, and you have to smash buttons to try and figure out what button does what.
My main complaint about this phone is the darn texting autofill. There's no way to turn it off, and while you're texting if it displays a "possible option" to what you were typing and you hit the space bar, it inserts that word automatically! If you're not paying attention, you end up sounding crazy. It doesn't remember words you typed most very well, and it bases its word recommendations off the text you last sent, like it expects you to say the same thing twice.
As far as the hardware goes, the smartphone has sufficient storage to hold many pictures and thousands of texts, so if you're like me and like to go through and save some of the good ones, its great for that. It has plenty of memory so you can run mulitple tabs in Opera Mini, office mobile and text your wife without problem. It has a microsd port, and I don't know the maximum capacity of that port. I have a tiny 2GB and it reads it perfectly. There are two main problems I have with the hardware, one is the volume buttons on the right side of the screen. They are very touchy, and when you call someone and you put the phone to your ear, it'll turn up or turn down your volume so much its hard to understand what the other person's saying! I ended up disabling the volume buttons and setting it manually at a comfortable level because there is no hope for these buttons. I watched a review on this phone before I bought it, and they said that the buttons originally were for scrolling on a web page, but that it didn't function as planned so they turned it into a volume button. The second problem, which is common among many phones, is that there's no 2.5 mm headphone jack. You either have to listen to music through the built in windows media player through the speaker on the phone, or you have to buy an audio adapter for the phone. I used to use my phone as an mp3 player as well as for productivity, but I can't any longer! Kind of unfortunate, why carry around 2 devices when you can use one for everything? Oh and the replacement battery is only 7 bucks!!!!
Overall this is a great phone, and I hope that you found this review to be helpful
