Dead on Arrival

The product came 2 units packaged in a plastic blister pack. This was placed inside a box and wrapped with paper. Upon arrival the blister pack was broken in several places and exhibited rub marks at the broken sites. It appears damage was done prior to final packaging. Neither unit functioned when power was applied. The call buttons did not call and the talk buttons did not transmit. All 3 channels were tested with the same results. The overall construction appeared good. The design of these intercoms is unchanged from similar products sold over many years.

Well built but prone to early failure.

This Honeywell product is larger than necessary because the body is used for a variety of thermostats with some models having extra functions. The magnetic switch which controls the thermostat is very well constructed and is shielded from dust and functions perfectly. Unfortunately the low voltage signal coming from the gas stove to the thermostat must travel through an additional set of contacts located in the thermostat's separate On - Off switch. My unit failed when these additional contacts developed resistance which resulted in lowering the voltage to the gas relay enough to keep the furnace from running. When the thermostat switched On its resistance went from near zero ohms at first to about 30 ohms within a few seconds. Sometimes the furnace would light when the thermostat first switched on and then die out a few seconds later. Measuring the resistance across the thermostat revealed the problem.

Good fix for broken plate - some disassembly necessary

This part is an exact replacement to the original. It was necessary to remove all of the screws to be able to insert the trap door and the vacuum selector control. I have been running the replacement part with no problems for over two weeks.
