Questions Finally Answered In Book Seven
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich I want to be careful not to give anything away to Harry Potter fans who have followed Harry through the first six books but have not yet read the outcome of this final story.
J.K. Rowling leads the reader to accompany Harry and his loyal companions, Hermione and Ron, on their quest to find the essential keys that will give them a chance against Lord Voldemort and his evil henchman in this last book of the seven-book saga. No longer in school at Hogwarts, Harry manages to stay hidden from evil hunters who search for him, thanks to Hermione's enterprising preparation for their evasion. The story of Harry's effort to stay hidden, moving from one disquised camping place to another, becomes a little long and drawn-out, leading the reader to be eager for the eventual confrontation.
As the story moves toward the conclusive final showdown with Voldemort and his army of evil, Harry is again virtually alone and out-gunned. However, as in earlier volumes, help comes from unexpected sources. In the finale, Harry demontrates remarkable courage and determination as he goes to meet his fate.
I especially liked the portrayals of heroism among some of Harry's friends in the last days. Jenny, Neville, and Luna are especially key in the battle. But, all of Dumbledore's Army demonstrates its valor in the great fight.
The book provides answers to some of the major questions raised in this and earlier volumes. Was Dumbledore truly good? Did he manipulate Harry? Why did Dumbledore seem to trust Severus Snape and why did Snape do the things he did? How are Harry and Voldemort connected? Can Harry destoy Voldemort without destroying himself?
The answers are given, but with a complexity I found difficult to trace, even after a couple of re-readings. Eventually, however, Rowling does bring closure to a long and complicated tale.
After I read this American version of Deathly Hallows, I was stimulated to read the entire seven-volume story again. I decided I wanted to read the original British versions. That second straight-through reading of the books brought clarity to the overall story and answered some of the small, puzzling aspects found in each of the first six books.
All in all, Rowling has written a masterpiece; one that will last for many generations of new readers.

Great Background About Ender's Parents and Jane
This book provides a basis for school discussions of Ender's Game. It contains four stories. Two focus on Ender's parents, the first on his father in Poland and the second on the meeting of his father and mother.
If one starts with Ender's Game and then later reads these background stories, appreciation grows for the talent and brilliance of Ender's parents. It becomes clear how these two provided the exceptional genes for three brilliant children: Peter, Valentine and Andrew (Ender). In fact, these stories lead the reader to want even more information about the early years of the father and mother. Perhaps Orson Scott Card can oblige with a full novel about the two.
Another of the stories tells how Ender first "met" Jane, the sentient entity living in the electronic world of computers. Jane first appears out of nowhere and helps Ender with his finances. In the process, she provides him power and begins to influence his fate. Later, of course, Jane is a pivotal figure in the survival of Ender and other sentient beings found in the human occupation of the hundred worlds. It is not until much later in the Ender series that Jane's origins become apparent.
The book's fourth novella is a reprint of the original abbreviated version of Ender's Game. The addition of this story is valuable for class discussion, should this little book be the SOLE Ender resource used in school. However, it is much more satisfying to be introduced to Ender's world by starting with the full novel of Ender's Game rather than this abbreviated version. The full story of a small boy learning to handle and finally master the challenges of Battle School is worth every word of the longer novel. It provides an even broader basis for class discussion in school classes.
In summary, this little book is essential reading for those who become caught up in Ender's saga and want to know every aspect of the environment that shaped him and his siblings. After all, those three kids influenced and shaped the very future of humanity.

A Young Girl In the Snare of Evil
Grabs you from the first page and doesn't let go. Story is told from the viewpoint of a young girl with no schooling who speaks in a manner you're unaccustomed to reading. The author describes a post-apocalyptic world, cold and depressing, where the girl's survival and hunting skills are her advantages. She seeks to escape awful evil before realizing that she's actually racing toward a confrontation with it. The story has unexpected twists and turns, making it difficult to put the book down.
