Outstanding

Romance, comedy, and pathos; and all whilst highlighting some of the most dangerous political traits effecting not just the US, but here in Europe as well. Yes it's a retrospective, but isn't that the point of history; to learn from? This is some of the finest television for a long time, and it's brilliantly written.

Excellent Story telling

Compelling characters with all their idiosyncrasies and flaws, set against the unique backdrop of sub-arctic Canada. The author captures both the harshness of the climate, and some of the tensions that exist between the Franco, Anglo, and Indigenous populations; as well as that between the different law enforcement agencies. Add in a well conceived murder story-line, and you get a great read.

Primal Fear

A very good screen play allied to great directing bring this fairly simple story to life: vulnerable boy accused of murdering a priest, and celebrity hungry lawyer defending him. Both Norton and Gere in those respective roles are quite exceptional. Although I'm not a great Gere fan, I have to say that he brings out the complexity of his character with aplomb, leaving you feeling both sympathy and dislike almost simultaneously. Edward Norton's acting however is on another level, and so real does he make his character that you feel part of the movie whenever his in scene. This was Norton's film debut, and it is quite easy to see why he has since been hailed as the 'actor of his generation.'
