Rare Technics sl1200 Mk1 Direct Drive Turntable in Excellent Condition
09. Dez 2019
Under Rated Gem
This is where the Technics journey all started with regards to Technics competing in the stakes to make rugged, usable turntables with Direct Drive motors and excellent build and sound qualities unrivalled in lesser decks. There was a high end Technics deck prior to this launch in 1972, but doesn’t have the pedigree for what followed later in late 1978/79 when the Technics 1200 Mk2 was conceived. These started life as a high quality home use turntables that were not intended for taking on the road or DJ’ing with, but due to the heavy build and good quality sound and adjustable pitch, were being used just for that purpose. People were learning to spin records on these decks. It was because of this that Technics decided that a revamp was required to make it a more easy to use DJ turntable with sturdier feet and a different arm and pitch adjust fader with quartz lock to hold the speed. This was the legendary MK2 that so many people strive for today as the birth of the most iconic DJ Turntable, but it all started with this one and had the MK1 not been invented, there would be no MK2. I have not heard or owned a MK2 and various forums rave about the MK2’s superiority over the MK1. In my opinion I think not. Yes there are arm improvements in the MK2 and the pitch fader and lock, but if you want a high quality turntable that will only gather in value, then the MK1 is the one to buy if you want to use it solely for home use. Taking it on the road then get the MK2. I have tried this with the gold Stanton 500 and it sings and have also used it with the Shure M75 6 s and it sings even better. The preference is yours based on what other equipment and era it’s from and whether you are listening to old or new vinyl, or both. Worth every penny

Basic Oldies
Basic 2 way design non ported so shallow bass response and some what boxy mid range. Treble is a little splashy, but portrays a reproduction of music in its most basic presentation. Would have got five stars for a more fuller bottom end.
Audio Technica AT-HS1 Headshell

Great
If you want a cheap no frills dj style headshell for not much money then this is for you. Bought dearer ones that were named and the only difference is that they are heavier. This makes no odds if you can adjust the tracking force and feels nice and light to use. The only criticism is the very small depth screws that come with the headshell. Not sure what cartridge only needs screws that short, but these are too short for most. So either use the ones that are on the head that is being swapped or buy some right size ones for a few quid. Still worth the price despite this
