Grey Gardens (DVD, 2009)

I purchased Grey Gardens the movie because I am a Grey Gardens fan. I had not read any of the reviews prior to the movie and was excited when I was able to purchase on E-bay. That was great!! Of course, I watched the movie with the Directors/Producers commentary first. Then when I just watched the movie, I was glad that I watched the commentary first. Especially if you are a fan and know some of the background concerning The Beales. That was essential in understanding some of the differences from the official documentary. I loved the acting on the part of Ms. Lange and Barrymore! Wonderful "staunch characters" themselves to take on this project and pull it off so magnificently!!

The Colony

"The Colony" was purchased after I read the book my English son-in-laws dad brought from England on one of his visit. After reading it, I wanted a personal copy. Since the book came from England, I did not know if I could purchase a copy. Of course, I thought of E-bay - and there it was! The author, Mr.Tayman, spent several years collecting the history of the Hawaiian island of Molokai and the exile of people with leprosy from 1866 to present. This book is an astonishing revelation of the endurance of people who were exiled under horrific circumstances and the people who dedicated their lives to making life better for this group of individuals. Not only in Hawaiian islands but in Carville, Lousianna. Mr. Tayman's "Notes" contain 67 pages of cross reference material not to mention the "Selected Bibliography" listings.
