You get what pay for
Sort of a minimalist wireless microphone setup, this is cheap, but you get what you pay for in terms of sound quality. It's good, for the price, but beware: the coiled cord that carries the signal to the camcorder has insulation that turns to icky black goo over time (Well, I bought mine around Y2K). However, you can easily replace this with another male-to-male, mono, 1/8" pin cable, so that's no problem.
My microphone/transmitter unit has died, and I'd like to keep using the receiver; it's considerably more robust than the cheap ones on the market today. The solution? Buy another unit, used, on ebay!
