Metropolitan Knits: Chic Designs for Urban Style by Melissa Wehrle (Paperback)

Simple, elegant knit designs for anyone with a bit of experience.

There are more patterns than I expected in this book, and some of them even look simple enough for me (a semi-novice who hasn't finished a sweater, yet) to attempt. For some reason I was expecting a pamphlet or magazine; I was thrilled to receive a big, beautiful, soft-cover book in my mailbox. The instructions seem clear, but I just received the book today and .haven't attempted any yet. I would not recommend this to a beginner, but if you have some experience with lace, cables, and shaping it might be the book for you. I'd say it's more at the intermediate level; not so complicated as to discourage, and the designs are elegant and will surely inspire you to want to learn more. I didn't see any chunky yarn, most of the patterns call for sport weight or thinner. The pattern that convinced me to purchase this was the Le Cirque cowl neck pullover. It seems like something I might be able to adapt and maybe even complete. There are several cardigans I might be willing to try in a year or two. And there are several Hoodies! Gorgeous handknit hoodies! I highly recommend this for any knitter who loves designs that are understated, delicate, and very very pretty.
