I wanted to love this book. I love the classic version and I felt this book really made characters too modern without relating the original personalities well.

James Herriot at his best!

I love the James Herriot children's books. They are soulful tales ( usually about animals) and this book is one of his best. It is beautifully illustrated by Ruth Brown.
