A Beautiful Reproduction
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich For many years, the readers of Famous Monsters Of Filmland were often treated to stills of editor, Forrest J. Ackerman posing with his "Dracula Ring". The facts are these, the ring was originally created in 1944 for Universal’s House of Frankenstein and worn by John Carradine in the role of the Count. Carradine again wore the ring in House of Dracula (1945). Three years later Universal signed Lugosi to reprise his role as Dracula, in Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948). Lugosi wore the ring in this classic comedy and kept it for several years thereafter. Late in life he gave it to a young fan and friend who gave the ring to FJA, along with other Lugosi-owned wardrobe, such as his stage worn cape. There is debate among fans as to whether or not Ackerman made castings and reproductions, lost the ring, wore a repro, etc... The bottom line is this, when I first saw reproductions of the ring a decade ago, they were being sold for $300 to $400, well out of my price range. While this ring may not be made of sterling silver, it is a good reproduction and an excellent piece of costume jewelry. The ring looks like the real deal and has a good heft. I bought one for myself and 2 others for my best fanboy friends. They were delighted to receive them at Christmas.

Finest Phantom on film.
Light and well-made, this film has a terrific lead and an Indiana Jones-style plotline. As a fan of The Phantom newspaper strip, I was bowled over by the attention to detail and nostalgic feel this movie achieves. There should have been many sequels and if this film were made today, perhaps there would have been.I cannot overstate how charming Billy Zane is in the lead role and unlike many other superheroes, you can tell that he really got into shape for this part. The Phantom is solid entertainment throughout.

An Invisible Man that you've probably never seen
I watched this series in first run syndication as a child and have a lot of sentimental affection for it. If you are a fan of THE SAINT or DANGER MAN, you will find this show to be in the same vein, only the protagonist just happens to be invisible. This very nice, out of print, Dark Sky release is probably the best the series will ever look. That being said, the patina of the original show makes it look like a relic of the early 50's, rather than it's actual 1958-59 production dates. The most fun to be had, while watching this show, comes from spotting familiar British character actors and the sometimes laughable physical effects used to portray our hero's invisibility. Stay away from the "gray market" discs found elsewhere. I would recommend purchasing this official, licensed collection before it disappears entirely.
