Good deal on a two-fer
Never Say Die is the funnier of the two films with hypochondriac Hope thinking he's going to die in 30 days. Not that Louisiana Purchase isn't funny but it's Victor Moore who steals the show there.

Everrything old becomes new again
I bought this BluRay for the extras, I already have the DVD. The film is hailed as being ahead of its time but that's not really so. The "happy talk" format had already been in use by local stations, anchors leading into stories with sarcastic quips and lots of smiles as they told you about earthquakes.
The film's strongest point are the performances, there's not a one to be faulted.

Good crime thriller, noir fans will enjoy it.
I'm a bit more fastidious about calling a ,movie a film noir. All noirs are crime films but not all crime films are noir. This one has teller Barry Sullivan being blamed for a robbery at his own bank. He's got a ruthless cop (Charles McGraw) on his trail as he tries to prove his innocence. Nice look at 1950s Los Angeles, this was a location shoot as opposed to a studio shoot. It's not a mystery, we know from the start as to who are the good guys and the bad guys. The conflict here comes from McGraw's cop who is certain that Sullivan is guilty.
