Optisch elegant und gute Leistung

Great book to show the clash of cultures in Britain!
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich "My son, the fanatic" shows excellently how different cultures - in this case the Indian/Pakistani and Western cultures clash. Parvez, the main character in this book, has adapted to the western way of life and is happy to be living in Great Britain. He is a taxi driver, who sometimes drives prostitutes around, and falls in love with "Bettina" (her real name is Sandra). His son is about to marry an English girl, but realizes that this is not the right thing to do for him. So, he finishes his relationship and becomes more and more involved with Muslim religion in order to find guidelines, which tell him how to live his life. As a a consequence, the two very different attitudes clash...
An excellent movie - especially for upper classes in school - to discuss "Indians in Britain" or how immigrants adapt to different cultures and how their children feel about it; it makes you think about your own behaviour towards foreign people and, although it is a serious subject, it is still funny and interesting to watch.
