The beginning of a grand space opera, spanning both galaxies and millennia
Extremely well-written, imaginative and on a scale with any grand epic, science-fiction or no. The story of a reluctant knight-errant that spans galaxies and millennia, a man of noble birth who wishes to be nothing more than a scholar finds himself on a very different path that takes him from the mean streets of poverty, to gladiatorial games to becoming a soldier of the Imperium, where he learns to fight the greatest threat to humanity, a race of aliens who subsist on human flesh.

The Cosmic War
The Oxford Don's classic venture into science fiction is his retelling of the War in Heaven, the expulsion of Satan and his fallen angels, the consequent reverberations through the Cosmos, their casting down to Earth and the progression to the culmination of the End of the Age when the victory of the Lord Jesus on the cross is made manifest in history with the defeat of The Bent One and the restoration of All Things under its rightful King.
