Used Dreamcast buyer beware
2 von 2 finden das hilfreich The Dreamcast was a pretty good system overall. It didn't make it in the marketplace for a number of reasons, but it had a good number of games and was beloved by those who had it. It still has fans today with homebrew games still being made for it by fans.
For those looking to buy one on e-bay, please be aware that there are a number of common issues that these machines suffer from. The most significant is a laser issue tied up with the system's GD-Rom drive. The laser wears out or breaks after a time and will no longer read game discs reliably. There is a fix that can be done by taking the system apart to adjust the drive's spin timing, but it's not a guarantee. From what research I've done in investigating to solve my own problems, this issue is pretty common and gets moreso as the systems get older. As all the Dreamcasts on the market are used now, this will become a more significant issue as time moves on.
Given that Sega no longer supports this system, if you happen to get a lemon, you're on your own. It's really a shame because the Dreamcast was an innovative and entertaining game system.
