1/48 AMT ERTL Curtiss P-40F Warhawk Kit 8795
This kit has been around since the mid-90's, but it is actually one of the better P-40 kits out there. It features recessed panel lines, reasonable details, and, what appears to be, an accurate profile. Produced during a time when AMT made a number of very nice 1/72 and 1/48 scale aircraft kits like their A-20, F7F, and Ju-88 series, the P-40's were a very respectable product for their time that still holds up fairly well today. They don't quite have the detail or finesse of more modern kits from Tamiya or Hasegawa, but with a little work, and perhaps a detail set or two, they really build up well with no serious faults. A really great aspect of these AMT P-40 kits is that they can be had for far less than the equivalent kits from Hasegawa, and there is enough aftermarket support and decal offerings to build a whole fleet of P-40's on the cheap. The AMT P-40 kits are not without fault, but represent good value for the money. In fact, Hobbycraft re-boxed them (I think Italeri may have too), and have provided some really tasty decal sets to go with them that make the modest increase in price worth it in my humble opinion.
