Bicycle Diaries by David Byrne
This book is a wonderful glimpse into the world from the view of a bike. All of the things that can never be experienced from a car, like the thrill of riding, the little things you get to observe, and the speed at which you can cross a city during rush hour hour, are chronicled in this tale from behind the handle bars. David Byrne is an excellent writer, and his observations made me laugh out loud on public transit while reading.
I admire David for riding a bike in NYC, or in most of the cities he writes about. I am usually the only person walking, so I know what he means when he says he is the lone bike rider. It's a different lifestyle, but one I whole heartedly embrace, as it is sustainable and pleasant to get around on your own personal energy. The reward is the journey!
