Adaptable to older Enfields
This product was designed for older bikes 350cc and some 500cc. It has steel bushings instead of bronze. Bronze bushings are available from HItchcocks in England. The reason I bought these distributors is: I can put the casing in my lathe and turn the timing end down to fit in the hole in the 1950s crankcase from Redditch, England, in place of a Lucas N1 magneto which are hard to find and expensive. Then, I had to drill the bolt holes in my crankcase to bolt it to the crankcase. I prefer the 144478 ball bearing distributor but I would have to disassemble my engine and bore the crankcase to fit because the ball bearings take up so much space that there wouldn't be enough material on the casing to fit the old magneto hole.
I recommend using the bronze bushings, stronger advance springs, and shims between the distributor drive gear and casing to give minimal clearance. Not sure how it will work out, but I drilled a 3/16ths hole in the end of the distributor casing at an angle above the bushing into the interior and another below the bushing at an angle into the interior to hopefully, have the bushings lubricated by timing case oil instead of grease fitting. This is my second bike with this distributor and drilled this way; the first one has been driven about 50 miles and is OK so far. Good Luck, Larry.

Factory Original
I saw this product on eBay and it seemed to be good value; it was still packaged in Royal Enfield sealed package. This exhaust valve is treated for long service.
