Very, very, very violent and gory
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich Wow, is what I have to say about Elfen Lied volume 1 DVD.
I'm a big fan of anime but Elfen Lied was one of those that I had heard of but never watched until I bought it on DVD.
I won't tell you too much about the story because it'll spoil the surpise but this is one of those animes where the line between good and bad is blurred and you're not sure who to root for. It's extremely violent and very, very, very gory with blood spurting everywhere during the violent scenes. There's also some nudity but it's not sexual in nature and normally involves embarassment for the main male character Kouta adding some homour to the story. The story also contains sub-plots about a relationship between the characters Kouta and Yuka, and a homeless girl and her puppy.
If you're looking for gore and violence then this is the anime for you. It's only a 15 certificate which is suprising for the amount of violence it contains. Some of it was difficult to watch especially when arms and legs come off.
The DVD contains 4 episodes, English and Japanese audio with subtitles, clean opening and closing sequence, character artwork, and production artwork.

It Was Okay
Alicia Vikander is a good actress and within the context of this movie makes a good Lara as the story to a certain extent follows the recent rebooted video games. Comparing her to Angelia Jolie isn't fair as its a completely different kind of movie. It's a bit of a bore for the first hour or so but once Lara reaches the island and explores a tomb then it gets a lot better. It's good that Lara isn't excessively overpowered, and cries and screams a lot, making her all the more realistic. My only real complaint about the movie itself is that the music is simply generic pop music in the background not matching the movie plot in the slightest. There isn't even any title music, the movie simply begins with narration of the story.
As for the blu-ray extras there's some interesting stuff but the section where people talk about Lara from the games is totally off-putting especially the multiple times that she's referred to as Laura.

Over the top and silly but very enjoyable
This live action movie is based upon the anime of the same name and while there are many similarities the story does branch off and contains events the anime didn't. Some key events, such as a vampire chasing a plane, don't make any sense within this movie but are included as a homage to the anime.
The special effects are very unrealistic with CGI blood and at times black blood, and it's not scary in the slightest. This isn't a horror movie but rather a karate style action movie that happens to contain vampires. It's silly, unintentionally funny in places, and very over the top, but it's very enjoyable and something to watch again and again.
The main character, Saya, is bilingual and it's interesting to watch her speaking in Japanese with a strong accent then speak English with other characters.
My only niggle is that the Blu-ray version isn't in perfect high-def, there is noticeable pixilation upon the screen. If you already own this movie on DVD I suggest not bothering to purchase the Blu-ray version.
