Maximum Ride
It's a good story, it has the extrapolation of contemporary science characteristic of good SF, and the characters themselves are written with enough realism that one can empathize with them. Having raised teenagers myself, I can see that Mr. Patterson is familiar with the adolescent experience.
It's best for a reader who doesn't want to wrestle (too seriously) with Weighty Matters and Important Concepts, but merely wants to while away a time pleasantly.
Read it and the other four, and enjoy.

Mistress of the Art of Death
History and mystery: what better combination? Franklin's heroine has to deal with the limitations set upon her gender by custom and Church in the 12th century. She is foreign in Henry II's England, and female, and single, and educated. Not one of these qualifications is valued, yet Henry expects results. Now. So she works through the facts, calling upon forensic knowledge learned in Salerno, to exppose the serial child killer, and, incidentally, free Henry's Jews (source of 1/7 of his income) from blame.
I've rented this book and wanted to own a copy. Those who appreciate a well written, convoluted mystery with historical research evident in the setting will appreciate Franklin's work, and may want to try The Serpant's Tale and Grave Goods.

Hogfather DVD
Movie closely followed book, always a plus, especially when the author is as good as Terry Pratchett. Effects were appropriate. They did not obscure the story, they embellished it. If you like your humour British and with a twist, try this one on for size.
