The Great AA & BB
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich The Hodges (both older and younger, here the younger) and BB Warfield are stalwart peers to their Puritan forebears. They lived both in centuries and in countries on continents—and were members of theological generations—subsequent and secondary to the best in all of the above, yet they themselves were equals in calling and prowess, and Warfield arguably beyond equal to many of his British Puritan forebears—and likewise quite possibly beyond not only them but many others throughout all of Christian history in any era—in giftedness and ability, insight, intelligence, faithfulness, retention, truth and orthodoxy, with orthopraxy to match.
If Augustine’s great concern was the Father; Luther’s great obsession the Logos Son and His Incarnation; if Calvin was THE Theologian of the Spirit and the British Puritanism begun by Knox and climaxing at Westminster likewise marked the unparalleled theology of the Third Person of the Trinity; then Hodge and Warfield and the Old Princetonian bequeathment to us is the doctrine and nature and theology of the Scripture itself—the Scripture that reveals this Triune God and the latest, best, most mature, developed, robust, and equipped and armed apologia and defense of the ancient and orthodox understanding of the inerrancy, infallibility, and authority of the God-breathed “Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments...the only rule to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy [God]” (WSC 2), truths so old they’re new in Hodge’s and Warfield’s hands, but that due to the forgetfulness of the world and not anything innovative in these two un-ancient, relatively modern men who were super-saturated in acquaintance with the Ancient of Days and His inspired and inerrant record of Himself.
Indescribable, this blessing of a book! It came to me in excellent physical condition, and my prayer is that, remaining so, it’ll eventually pass on from me to others who need to learn of and be edified by its message, a message so old it’s new. It arrived looking like a book built to last, and I pray that it does as it testifies about a Book and a Word breathed and built to do so, and does.

Looks good!
This is exciting subject matter on which to base either a study in history or the deep plunge into historical fiction. Terribly excited and can’t wait!

Excellent
Owen is the greatest English-speaking theologian of all time, and yet the 27-year old man of genius and brilliance dispatches with the menace of Arminianism in this little book the way all Christians should pray, study, learn, equip, and be able to do themselves.
A marvelous cursory and brief inoculation against the Arminian error and a meek and holy defense of the Oracles of God’s self-evident and self-testifying confession and proclamation of theocentric “grace upon grace” in the whole of the Christian Faith.
