Bold Swiss Design
Mondaine's standard "official watch of the Swiss railway", the regular non-chrono timekeeper, caught my eye years ago. There was something about the use of simple black-and-white hour hands and markers that seemed elegant and edgy. It seemed like Bauhaus design on steroids. And so easy to read, you could pretty much set it up on your desk or night stand and use it as clock! Although at the time I did not care for the red seconds hand, with the round lollipop top clicking around the face. So it was with a great deal of enthusiasm that I stumbled upon the Mondaine Chronograph with the same basic formula! Simple, contrasting colors that result in a striking and legible dial. And that pesky lollipop hand stays still until you activate the chrono; the red hand is used to track seconds. The rest of the watch is pretty standard quartz chronograph fare--you can time events up to 30 minutes and with the accuracy of tenths of a second. I generally prefer my chronographs to record time up to an hour, but this is a small issue if used for timing lunch breaks or exercise. The big date at the 12 o'clock position is handy, even more useful than watches that use a diminutive window to display the date. This watch was made for easy reading and a sense of style! There really is something elegant about the simplicity of the design. The accuracy of the Swiss movement is outstanding, and the chronograph feature adds a bit of sophistication to the design, and makes it more usable. The crown is topped with a red "M". There is a little bit of lume on the hands, if you're into that sort of thing. Hands down, this is one of the classiest watches out there.

Solid-feeling watch case
Aluminum case feels very solid and safe. Inside, there are 18 padded watch slots and a watch pillow for each slot. Top interior lid is eggshell-like foam to keep the items in place. On the exterior there is a stainless handle and two lockable closures. The case could be used for travel, but I use mine for storing and organizing my collection. The lock clasps don't work on mine, so this may be a consideration if you intend to use the case for travel or safe keeping.
