excellent mics for drum Overheads.
These are the clearest sounding drum mic overheads I have yet used. I've used nuemann tlm 102, and wa 87, and I think these mics pick up the drum with the most realism I've heard yet. A very tight, and punchy sounding drum with a lot of nice top end (not harsh at all) Its like perfect high end. They don't pick up all those tubby low mids from the cymbals and kick drum. Very tight, and perfect for an actual mix for metal or rock music. Sound like what overheads are supposed to sound like after processing. I found myself trying to get more expensive large diaphragm condensers to sound like these. They add immense clarity to the articulation of the kick drum. pairs well with beta 52A. If you have good smooth cymbals these mics will accurately represent them with a lot of clarity. My only issue is they are a touch thin in the low mids which work very well for overheads imo. However if you just boost 200 hz on the snare mic it fixes the perceived thinness. or flipping the phase on the snare mic works too. Great mics for the price. Love them. These mics will trick you on their own the drums might sound a bit thin and lacking in the low end but once you have bass, guitars, vocals in a full mix you'll understand these mics save a lot of hassle with eqs and all that. just keeps the kick articulate even when bass and guitars are in there. They sound very high fi as well. large diaphragms are muddier in my opinion from my experience.
