Simply superb

I have used other exotic long lenses like the Nikkor 500mm f4 and Nikkor 300mm f2.8 but the Canon is definitely sharper particularly wide open. The Nikkors with TCs needed to be stopped down for best IQ whereas the Canon does not. The focus speed is fast even with a 2x iii attached. And finally the IS works very well. An outstanding lens that is portable and hand holdable.

High quality, good design, comfortable on your back.

Everything about this backpack oozes quality and good design. Easily takes a 600mm f4 (hood reversed) with camera and teleconverter. It is one of the most comfortable backpacks I have ever used.

One of the best

This must be one of the most underrated lenses in the Nikkor lineup. As other reviewers have said it is sharp at all apertures and across the frame and focuses fast even though it does not have an internal motor. It is an excellent general purpose lens and the macro performance is the icing on the cake. It is the best £200 I have ever spent on a lens.
