I will wait to see how many of these batteries are useless prior to the expiration date.
Time will tell. I have been having a lot of issues with "quality" brands of alkaline batteries that are new and have 3-4 years expiration dates in the future that have no charge. It seems like 20-30% of the batteries are no good years prior to the expire date. That would suggest that the expiration date is useless, poor quality control, and/or it is the nature of these types of batteries. I'll see if Duracell is better over the next few years.
